Rice Support

The most expensive area of LOA’s support is providing rice to the absolute poorest of our families. We currently support 25 families with monthly rice, and every week we receive a new request.

Providing rice to a family alleviates the pressure of our scholarship student to have to skip school and work to help to feed her family.

This year rice support has also been provided to orphaned students so that extended family members can care for them with lowered costs. One of our students and her sister, both in primary school, are now able to live with their grandmother after losing their father at the end of last year, without feeling that they need to work to earn their keep with her. Their grandmother is very grateful as she was already caring for her grown son who has sever special needs, and neither she nor her husband were able to work due to frailness.
